Before I start this little rant, I will agree, the United States has enjoyed some of the lowest gas prices in the world. When I was in the UK in 2001 / 2002, gas came out to $5 a gallon then. We have been lucky...sort of. Oil companies are still making HUGE profits at the expense of the public. Duh. That's really no news flash. Now, I'm all for a business making a buck, after all, that's why we work - to make the money to live. But the sheer greed of these large corporations is outrageous. Take Exxon for example - this blurb courtesy of the Washington Post: Exxon Mobil, the world's biggest oil company, said profit climbed 10 percent to a first-quarter record after higher gasoline and diesel prices increased refining profit. Profit rose to $9.28 billion from $8.4 billion in the comparable period a year earlier, the Irving, Tex., company said in a statement yesterday. Revenue fell 2 percent, to $87.2 billion.
When the price at the pump goes up so much, and our paychecks don't change to meet that need, we're all in trouble. $3.09 a gallon is something we should ALL be mad about.
